The Arabic Learning Centre’s curriculum progresses systematically through articulation zones, phonetic properties, and pronunciation rules that form the basis of accurate Tajweed application.
1. Arabic Letter Articulation Points and Vocal Mechanics for Tajweed
Students learn the seventeen makhārij (articulation points) spanning the throat, tongue, lips, and nasal cavity. The Arabic Learning Centre’s instructors demonstrate correct tongue placement, airflow control, and vocal tension for each letter, ensuring students distinguish between similarly articulated sounds like ṣād and sīn.
2. Phonetic Attributes of Arabic Letters for Accurate Tajweed
This module covers the major and minor phonetic attributes (ṣifāt) including hams, jahr, shidda, and rakhāwa. Students practice identifying which Arabic letters require voice, which demand vocal fold tension, and how these attributes affect pronunciation during continuous recitation.
3. Arabic Pronunciation Rules Before Tajweed Application
Students master sukūn versus vowel pronunciation, short versus long vowels, and the mechanics of doubling (shadda). The Arabic Learning Centre’s curriculum includes nasalization (ghunna), echo sounds (qalqala), and the pronunciation shifts that occur when specific Arabic letters meet in sequence.
4. Arabic Basics for Tajweed: Vowel Marks and Sound Duration
This section trains students in recognizing and producing fatḥa, kasra, ḍamma, tanwīn, and madd (prolongation). Students learn to control vowel length precisely—two, four, or six beats—and to apply vowel marks correctly when transitioning between Arabic letters during recitation.
