The Arabic Learning Centre’s classical Arabic course provides rigorous instruction in pre-modern Arabic grammar, morphology, and syntax. Students study verb conjugation patterns, noun declensions, and sentence structures unique to classical texts, building competence through direct analysis of historical texts.

The classical Arabic curriculum employs text-centered pedagogy where learners parse authentic classical passages, identify grammatical functions, and trace morphological roots. Each classical Arabic lesson progresses from foundational grammatical concepts to advanced syntactic analysis, ensuring students achieve functional reading proficiency in classical Arabic literature.

1. Classical Arabic Grammatical Structures and Syntax 

Students master the fundamental grammatical frameworks governing classical Arabic sentences. The curriculum covers i’rab (grammatical case endings), subject-verb agreement patterns, and conditional clause construction. Learners analyze how classical authors employed grammatical devices to convey precise meanings in legal, philosophical, and literary texts.

2. Classical Arabic Morphological Patterns and Root Systems 

This component trains learners to identify and manipulate Arabic root-pattern morphology as used in classical texts. Students study trilateral and quadrilateral root formations, verb forms (awzan), and nominal patterns. Instruction emphasizes recognizing morphological transformations that alter semantic meaning across different classical genres.

3. Classical Arabic Vocabulary and Lexical Analysis 

Learners build specialized classical vocabulary through systematic exposure to historical word usage and semantic fields.
